Many of us take for granted our access to clean water, we turn the faucet on and clean water flows, but in many countries even our own access to clean water is a daily struggle.

Image you are living in a tent, your walls are plastic and the floor is dirt or a concrete slab. You cook over propane canisters and your only source of light is a single bulb plugged into an outlet. Indoor plumbing is limited and many times is non-existent. You are dependent on the delivery of water in plastic jugs but if you do not have money to purchase bottled water you go without or risk illness or death by drinking from local streams or stagnant water collection containers.

How we will help? By partnering with local water vendors to purchase clean water in portable containers and distributing it to families in need of daily clean water.

How can you help? For $30 per family you can provide clean water for one month! 100% of donations to this campaign go directly to the purchase of clean water.

It’s summer and you are heading out into the wilderness with your tent, camp stove, sleeping bag and backpack stocked full of all of the food and adventure essentials that you need. Excited about the possibility of roughing it in nature and then coming home to all the comforts that it provides.

Now imagine a different scenario… Your government has waged a civil war against its people. Bombing the place you call home, forcing you and your family to flee to the borders of other countries.

An NGO hands you a piece of paper allowing you into the country and gives you information on nearby camps. Upon arrival you are informed that you cannot build any new structures but may pay to rent an existing tent. You have nothing and no money, so begin the search for a job to pay for your tent that lacks plumbing, running water and sometimes electricity.

How will we help? Refugees often find them selves in temporary or long-term situations where work cannot be found and they risk eviction from the only home they have left. On a case-by-case basis we will provide short-term rent payments to land owners until work can be found.

How can you help? For every $100 donated we can provide home security for a refugee family for a month!

I have the right to be a child, the right to play, the right to dream and explore, the right to an education, to a better life. I am not just a refugee; I am a child with hopes and dreams.

Every child deserves the right to play and imagine in a space that fosters exploration and creative development. White Tent will provide a safe space within each camp that promotes creativity through art, music and creative play.

What will we do? Rent one tent in each camp, purchase or receive donations of art supplies, puppets, materials to create a stage for plays and performances, employ one art instructor from within the refugee community to direct projects and engage children. Seek out volunteers to bring small performances and plays to the camps on a monthly basis.

What can you do? A donation of $100 covers the rent on one art tent for a month; once the rent has been covered additional donations will cover the cost of art materials, puppets, stage creation and salaries for our refugee teachers. As always 100% of donations go directly to this project.

For many of us access to fresh fruits and vegetables is a part of every day life. We want an apple, we get it, we have a salad at lunch or grill an ear of corn with our dinner at night but for those who have been forced to flee their homes due to civil war, access to healthy food choices is not a priority, nor financially accessible.

Partnering with Lebanese farmers we can provide families living within the confines of refugee camps in Lebanon with access to fresh produce grown near their homes.

How will we accomplish this? Forming partnerships with local Lebanese farmers, purchasing a percentage of their crops each harvest and distributing it to families in need. By purchasing local produce from farmers, we support local Lebanese families and provide healthy food options at no cost to those who need it most!

The needs of refugees arriving in America are much different than the needs of refugees living within settlements and camps globally.

Transportation is crucial in providing stability and earning a living wage to provide for both family and themselves.

Rides for refugees will partner with Uber to set up and maintain an account to provide those in need with access to no-cost rides to appointments, college courses and job interviews.

This is an ongoing project that will has no financial limit. Any and every donation is greatly appreciated and will assist refugees in achieving their dreams.

A refugee arrives in the United States after a long and arduous two to three-year green card approval process. Filled with hope and the peace of mind that their family is secure and safe, their children can attend school once again and they have the security of a home and food. As they become accustom to a new language, new culture and begin the hunt for employment the reality of the cost of supporting a family becomes daunting. Civil war forced many refugees to put their educational pursuits on hold, navigating applications to apply to college or trade school is overwhelming and the high cost of tuition coupled with loss of income means a college degree is out of reach for many refugees.

White Tent will partner with a local Community college to provide scholarships to refugees living in the Greater Grand Rapids community and beyond to cover tuition and supplies for a two-year associates degree.
